Here are the basics:
Ellie "Mitsy Rodriguez" Swemba and Chris "Bruce Dunlop" Grimmer have recently commited to running three races in an attempt to raise money for charity. We will be running the Salt Lake City Marathon on April 18th, the Green River Marathon in Seattle on June 6th, and the Chicago Marathon on October 11th.
Mitsy will be running to raise money for The Global Fund, a charity dedicated to fighting AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Bruce will be running to raise money for UNICEF, a charity dedicated to saving the lives of children around the globe. So either way, your donation will be doing a lot. Donors who give to the runner that raises the most money by October 10th will be deemed part of the winning team. All members of the winning team will earn the respect of their peers as well as a race-day postcard from Chicago signed by Mitsy, Bruce and Oprah.
We researched ways to set up a fundraising website through a third party group that would have allowed us to accept credit cards, but even the best of these groups wanted to keep 5% of your donation. Ain't that something!
Instead, we are asking you to donate directly to the charities themselves, and then to let us know how much you gave by email (mitsyandbrucerun@gmail.com) so we can update the status bars. We'll trust you. Check to see if contributions can be matched through your workplace! We will count employer matches towards our totals. The donation pages for the two charities can be found at:
Once you have made your donation, please send us an email at: mitsyandbrucerun@gmail.com to let us know the donation amount and to which charity/runner you gave so we can update the progress bars and put your name up on this site so everybody knows how generous you are! Thanks so much!
